Stian Hagen

Stian Hagen has filmed with most of the big production companies in the ski film industry and has travelled all around the world in search of the perfect line, and he is still searching!

Growing up in Oslo, Norway, Stian learned skiing at a very early age, his parents were very keen skiers and outdoor enthusiast, and it was natural for him to follow them around in the mountains.

In the 70´s and early 80´s there was no terrain parks and freeskiing was not yet a sport, so Stian and his friends built their own jumps in the forest and did flips on their x-country skis, this eventually lead Stian into ski jumping, a sport he competed in at a high national level until he was about 16 years old.

Tired of organized training and wearing tight pink suits he quit ski-jumping and started Telemark skiing. (he is not very proud of this) Telemark skiing brought him to Chamonix on a ski holiday with school friends and this is were he saw the potential for skiing in the mountains.

The next years were spent saving up money to return to Chamonix for a full season as a skibum. In 1994 Stian had made enough money to realize his dream of skiing for a whole winter, together with friends he rented a small apartment in Chamonix, ate pasta with ketchup 3 times a day and skied his legs off every day. The plan was to only do this for a season then go back to studying, but 15 years later he is still in Chamonix. There was no money in skiing back then so Stian did everything he could to ski as much as possible, one season he even lived in a tent for 2 months, mid winter, so that he could save money and ski more.

Eventually sponsors started seeing the potential in the kid from Norway, and gradually he made is way up the ladder in the professional freeskiing world. He has filmed with most of the biggest production companies in the ski film industry and has travelled all around the world in search of the perfect line, and he is still searching!
